This month we have a Ribera de Duero Denomination of Origin wine, more concretely, a family winery that know how to do things well. With a small y total production of 120,000 bottles, we have a range of wines and prices. From the most expensive (Pesus) at 250 Euro a bottle to the 13 Euro wine I wish to present to you.

SIGHT Holding the two wine glasses at the same height, tilt both through 45º against a white, matt background in order to appreciate different shades of colour.

When the glass is tilted against a white background, we may appreciate its colour potential. Its intensity of colour stands out, with a deep cherry colour with purplish hues.

SMELL

A change in aromas can be appreciated. At first, it might seem a somewhat heavy wine to us, and so decanting is recommended. However, a few days ago a famous wine maker Me told me that he was increasingly unhappy with decanting because, he explained, on decanting the wine, we lose aromas, and aromas are part of what makes the wine. For myself, I’ll let that one up in the air so you can think about it.
As regards the wine itself, a high aromatic potential can be appreciated. Notable is the mature fruit, sweet and with hints of black fruit such as blackberry. Still with the primary aromas, a garden vegetable background, very typical of the Riberas, can be appreciated. On a secondary plane, the burnt wood, spices (cinnamon), cedar and minerals stand out.

MOUTH

Dry first impression with its high tanicity (dry sensation all over the inside cheeks and on the gums. Afterwards, it gives us a touch of bitterness at the back of the tongue. Given the warmth it provides, we can appreciate the sensation of alcohol. With the retronasal the fruit is first notable, then the toasted. On swallowing the wine, the aftertaste is long-lasting, given its tanicity and its body (sensation of fullness throughout the mouth).

SUMMARY
This is a wine with great personality; very much Ribera de Duero, both on the nose and on the palate. And at an affordable price. Perhaps leaving it a certain amount of time in the bottle could be recommended (always assuming it is kept in optimum conditions) so that it may come to its optimum state (when it reaches its fullness, it is harmonious).
